NEW VOLUNTEER SCREENING

Guild Facts and Expectations for Potential Guild Volunteers (added to Website as a volunteer pre-screen)

Thank you for your interest in the Shaw Guild, the volunteer arm of the Shaw Festival. Our volunteers support the Shaw Festival in several ways:

  • Greeters - welcome patrons to the theatres and answer their questions

  • Hosts - scan tickets and orient patrons to the theatres and event spaces

  • Docents - conduct backstage tours

  • Continue the Conversation Volunteers - facilitate post-show chats

  • Gardeners - maintain the gardens around the theatres and Artists Village

  • Workshop Volunteers - assist at family pre-show workshops

  • Garden Tour Volunteers - assist at the Guild’s major fundraiser

  • Volunteers also help with events, special projects, outreach and fundraising

A few Guild facts and expectations:

  • Most of our roles are patron-facing so our volunteers should enjoy interacting and chatting with fellow theatre goers

  • We volunteer all year long however peak demand is:

  • regular season (April to mid-October)

  • holiday season (November and December)

  • We require our volunteers to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per calendar year

  • We provide necessary training for all volunteers including:

  • Guild Information Session

  • Guild Orientation

  • AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) training

  • Human Connection workshop

  • Role-specific training

  • We use an online booking system to book all shifts, so basic computer skills are necessary

  • Our Greeters stand outside for 60–75 minutes in all kinds of weather

  • Our Hosts stand inside the theatres for 60–90 minutes before shows

  • Our backstage tours include multiple sets of stairs

Thank you for your interest in the Guild, and we look forward to connecting with you.
